Good evening! My name is Thomas Mergel and this poor website has allowed me to reign terror from the void and nihilistic abyss that is black metal. I want to contribute nothing but black metal to this fine website and make that ‘v’ in Svbterranean truly ‘kvlt’. Since this is my first post and so happens to be the final day of January, I want to get you caught up on the best black metal that came out this past month. Less reading, more listening. Go forth into the void.
One of the first things I’ll share with you is quite obvious. Abbath’s latest self titled debut album is a wild ride through Immortal like soundscapes of battle axes and orc blood, but we also get something new and neat to enjoy. Most of this album is quite catchy and amazingly well written. You know the face, you’ll recognize the riffs and I know you will like this album. Listen to the album here!
Next up is some incredible atmospheric post-black metal from Lascar! The band hails from Chile and the musicianship they bring is also chilly. (Holy shit that was cheesy…) This independent release is one you must explore. So what are you waiting for?! Press play just below here or visit their Bandcamp page and purchase it directly from them!
Alrighty now up next is the dark sound of Highborne. A miserable one man project from America (I mean that in a good way), this debut release is something divine for those who enjoy off putting production but a cold and hollow writing style. If you like, you can download it from his Bandcamp page for free!!
Icelandic black metal has grown and become a wonderful thing recently. Another album that comes from that wonderful northern island is the band Naðra, and the debut release from this band is something you absolutely must listen to right now. One of my favorites to be released so far and I think you will like it as well! Download the album here!
I’ll end this week’s editorial with one of my favorite albums from last year! Mesarthim is everything you could possibly want in atmosphere and ambiance with stellar space driven black metal. A very unique experience and something I highly recommend for you all to explore. A wild journey through time and space within the span of 54 minutes. The album is finally available in physical form and you can pick it up here. Strap on some headphones, sit back and relax. Close your eyes and thank me later.
I’ll keep hunting for more and more and recommend you great musings from the void. Thank you and enjoy.
