This week I have some fine choices of black metal for all of you eager to hear the darkest sounds from the realm of the abyss. The work you will hear this week will be evil, atmospheric, depressing and majestic. Enjoy the music From The Void.
First up I want to show off Temple of Evil, a wonderfully sinister black metal act from Cyprus! Initially, the artwork for “The 7th Awakening” just puts out there what to expect and the music found within is portraying exactly what I was hoping for. Foul darkened atmosphere, great guitar playing, harsh vocals and wonderfully warm bass playing set aside the punishing drum work. A very good release and the band has the album up FOR FREE on their Bandcamp. You have no excuse, you must listen to this.
It looks as if you need something a little more….barbaric. Here is some fine Heathen Black Metal from New Zealand! Vargafrost has made a fan out of me since I heard their debut album “Warriors of the Dawn” but “Honour, Blood, Spirit and Love” will make you absolutely fall in love with them. A very simple and direct way of pushing black metal into your life, Vargafrost keeps it cold and dark but adds a touch of warrior’s spirit into the mix. If you buy this album I hear you get an axe with it for free! (Offer may no longer be available) Listen to this album HERE!
Hailing from the cold Russian lands is Darkeater, and if you loved the sounds of last weeks Mesarthim then I also think you will enjoy this one. The album is one I cannot pronounce but it was my #2 black metal album from last year. Solid writing, depressing tone and atmosphere, melancholic riffs and keyboard workings with the tormented vocals really makes “Иней Чёрного Рассвета” a magical yet emotional journey.
Lastly I will end this week’s recommendations with probably the black metal album of 2016. It’s a little early to call it this but I absolutely love every single second of this album. Fuath comes from the brilliant mind of Andy Marshall, the mastermind behind Saor! He hangs up his wind instruments and Celtic wear for corpsepaint and darkened atmospheres with this debut release…and it’s just simply amazing. Again he goes for longer songs with only 4 tracks on the album but the amount of stellar riffing, emotive building song writing and overall mix and sound just has me on the edge of my seat and my head whirling around in circles every time I listen to this. I love this and I know you will too. Check out their Bandcamp and throw money at it.
Well that is it for this week. I shall return next week with more wonderful soundscapes for your soul to navigate. Thank you and have a great week!
