Combining the metallic weight of post-metal and sludge, the expressiveness of post-rock and the kaleidoscopic colors of shoegaze, Spotlights offer a unique, dense and sonically crushing experience with their debut full-length, Tidals. In a sea of artists that utilize the walls of sound associated with shoegaze, Spotlights break the mold by using the techniques as an enhancement rather than a crutch. The end result is a niche sound that will eventually become synonymous with this band’s impressive debut. Svbterranenan recently caught up with one-half of the New York duo, Mario Quintero, to talk about the new record, the band’s beginnings, shoegaze and future plans.
Oh modern progressive music, you just love pulling things from technology and creating something magically organic with it. What is binary code? The literal meaning is that binary code represents text or computer processor instructions using the binary number system’s two binary digits, 0 and 1. The binary code assigns a bit string to each symbol or instruction. For example, a binary string of eight binary digits (bits) can represent any of 256 possible values and can therefore correspond to a variety of different symbols, letters or instructions. In this case, Binary Code is a progressive metal band hailing from New Jersey and what they offer is just as important as their literal meaning. Moonsblood is quite the endeavor and a wonderful listening experience.
