The Long Dark Road is the brainchild of Jeremy Cavan. The four piece are based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
“Tragedy of the Commons” is the starting point of the release and what a curtain raiser it is. The Long Dark Road utilizes somewhat melodic vocals, deliberated guitar patterns, and frequent arrangement changes to commence the recording. Chaotic blast beats intersect with stunning tom fills to achieve and sustain a memorable racket.
Vocalist Jeremy Cavan sings “My words know anger and I got your number” with genuine venom on “I Will Follow.” The unorthodox songwriting evident on this track invokes a feel not unlike American math black metal band Bosse De Nage. Despite this similarity one could make a strong argument that This Long Road’s songwriting is even more unhinged and shape shifting. The bridge section in this track is absolutely beautiful juxtaposed by a jarring crescendo which concludes the track.
“The State of our Union” could be described as not unlike if Lantlos were to be melded together with Mr. Bungle. Cavan’s vocals add almost a Voivod like feel to the track. The chorus explodes with a memorable vocal line in particular. “A future filled with holes” bolsters this standout track.
The final track ends on a high note with a crushing, dissolving waltz that once again evokes Bosse De Nage but by this time unmistakably The Long Road’s own idiosyncratic hybrid of aggressive music.
The Long Dark Road have crafted an exceptionally memorable, towering debut recording. With songwriting chops and musicality of this caliber, be on the watch for future material from them. The 4 song release will be available April 8th, 2017 – in the meantime feast your ears on first single “The Tragedy of Commons”
