Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada’s Unbeheld deliver a clever hybrid of old school Death Metal (think Deicide, Bolt Thrower, or Cannibal Corpse) with more modern approaches like Gojira and Obscura. As is the case with many exceptional artists, Unbeheld also incorporates a style that is all their own: concise, razor sharp arrangements (with absolutely nothing more than necessary) and a lyrical approach that draws on themes of anxiety and depression. Many of their peers choose to rehash the same themes of violence and gore in the death metal canon whereas Unbeheld strike from a different angle.
NYC-based “immigrindcore” band Chepang (originally from Kathmandu, Nepal) are set to release their debut LP, titled Dadhelo – A Tale of Wildfire, this November. The follow-up to their 2016 Lathi Charge EP takes their vicious, politically-charged grind approach to a whole other level of intensity, with the introduction of a second drummer.
In anticipation of the upcoming album, Chepang are offering up a taste of the release right here on Svbterranean, with a video for the track “Bech Bikhan.” The song is less than a minute worth of sheer sonic chaos, while the video captures the recording process, showcasing the band’s two drummers performing and recording simultaneously. Check it out after the break.
