Epic folk metal is the genre that Ensiferum is listed under and rightfully so. Ensiferum have always been a band to create rather impressively fun music while maintaining a sense of fantasy and awesomeness to it. There is also a lot of catchy song writing when it comes to this band and they bring that sense of musicianship along with their new album “Two Paths“. This new album has that nice stylish flow about it that makes it folk, melodic and incredibly metal. Expect a damn good album this time around!
“Two Paths” will be Ensiferum’s 7th studio album and honestly this may be their best one yet! Production is simply clean but enriching, the musical compositions are some of the catchiest riffs they’ve ever written and the energy behind this album is simply enjoyable. Songs like “For Those About To Fight For Metal” and “Way of the Warrior” just has that massive metal appeal that praise the likes of old school gods but also pays tribute to modern day writings and themes. While Ensiferum may have started out their career being mainly folk based, they seem to have drifted more towards the “fuck yeah metal” sensibilities while grasping at their folk ideologies when necessary. This slight shift works well as it makes their music less gimmicky and more respectable. Ensiferum have come a long way and each album just seems to be better and better than the previous one, even if that line seems cliche and overused when it comes to band progression.
Ensiferum bring the furious sense of metal with “Two Paths” and it is more than welcomed. Crunchy guitars, thick bass tones and absolutely beautiful drumming with the Ensiferum charm to it really makes for a welcoming sound here in 2017. Just when I thought it was going to be nothing but a brutal death metal year, Ensiferum comes out with this gem of an album and just reminds me just how epic and fun metal can be. “Two Paths” is simply enjoyable on all levels.
“Two Paths” has energy and character to it that is unmatched in modern metal. Their charm and style really make them stand out from the crowd. If you’re a fan of melodic metal and folk metal, crunched together to make something superior, then Ensiferum’s “Two Paths” is definitely up your alley. A must listen to album of 2017!
