In just a few short weeks, North Carolina progressive metal quartet As Oceans will release their third full-length album, Still Miles to Go, via Primitive Ways Records. The forthcoming effort sees the band pushing their sound further into realms only slightly touched upon in previous releases. The band’s groove-heavy brand of deathcore has become melded with more dynamic progressive metal elements, as well as atmospheric and post-metal qualities. Some songs faithfully hark back to the band’s previous material, while others offer something completely new.
“Blackfish” is one of these particular tracks that break the mold. The track features massive, lumbering riffs intertwined with ethereal atmospheres and glimmering, post-rock melodies, producing a sound akin to the emotive progressive/post-metal epics of The Ocean, Intronaut, and the like. “This is us at our most exposed, and one of our most sonically gripping,” says vocalist Logan Lawson. “This might not be the As Oceans people are used to, but this is in line with what we’ve always wanted to create.” We at Svbterranean are excited to bring you the official music video for the track, which can be streamed below.
Still Miles to Go will be released on March 16. Pre-order here.
