Armed with unforgiving, soul-crushing instrumentation and a deep disgust for humanity, Our Place of Worship is Silence craft a blood-soaked aural nightmare on their sophomore full-length, With Inexorable Suffering.Picking up where its predecessor, The Embodiment of Hate, left off, With Inexorable Suffering sees the now two-piece plunging deeper into the darkest realms of death metal. Through cacophonous assaults of writhing, groaning, bestial guitar riffs and bludgeoning drumming, this Californian duo aim to create the most suffocating musical experience they possibly can with this new 34-minute effort. Within the first few moments of being subjected to the album’s churning dissonant hell, it becomes clear that they have accomplished that goal.
From the gruesome, barbaric beating of “Artificial Purgatory”, to the aberrated, lurching monstrosity that is “Lawlessness Will Abound”, With Inexorable Suffering unyielding display of brutality and pure darkness that listeners will be lucky to survive. The record’s sound is a twisted interpretation blackened death metal that seems to have been broken down and reassembled into a disfigured version of its former self. Its death metal heart still pumps proudly through its veins, but the body itself is an ugly, hulking mass of unbridled gruesomeness.
With tracks such as “Chronicles of Annihilation”, auditory devastation is pretty much a given. The track throttles the listener with a nonstop cycle of galloping riffs that twitch and twist with each sudden rhythmic shift, and frequently morph into quick bursts of nauseating, tremolo-picked dissonant flurries. The chaos flows over into “The Blind Chimera and its Death”, one of the record’s standout cuts. This cthonic tune absolutely obliterates everything around it as it feverishly shifts from malformed, crawling riffs, to caustic blackened stampedes, to some combination of the two extremes that make for maximum horror and maximum bloodshed.
From beginning to end, With Inexorable Suffering inflicts the very suffering its title suggests upon those who listen. It’s a gross and frightening record filled with insurmountable hate that puts humanity on notice and urges for its disposal.
