Mixed, Not Stirred is a weekly column in which artists curate special, themed playlists via Spotify or other mediums.
In this week’s Mixed, Not Stirred Martin Defatte, Tron Jovi of Guerrilla Ghost, bassist for Volunteer, and part-owner of Triple Eye Industries, curated a playlist of hip-hop and electronic songs that have been influencing his work producing for Guerrilla Ghost. He says in his own words:
“I’ve always told folks I’ve grown up on equal parts Iron Maiden and Run DMC. As part owner of a noise rock label, bassist of a noise rock band and electronic producer for Guerrilla Ghost, my tastes are all over the board.I’ve put together a playlist of new songs, songs that have been in rotation for a while, across a few genres. There’s a heavy dose of UK Grime, which is a constant staple in the car; and a huge personal influence on my work with GGHOST. The one tie-in for all these songs, is that they are simply well produced – all genres aside. As an electronic producer – for me, the audio production is the first thing you notice. In this age of streaming, and due to the sheer volume of available material… a song has got to stick in your head and make you want to hit replay. If you don’t have heads bobbing to a memorable beat within the first 15-20 seconds of a song on first listen, that potential listener is probably going to hit the skip button. As a new artist, if they’re on a streaming playlis or radio and not your album – you’ve lost that opportunity to connect with them. So, give me some of your precious time, and bob your head to these lil’ nuggets whose production has kept my interest in recent months. You might be surprised at my selections.Keep your eyes open for the forthcoming Guerrilla Ghost full length, “Perpetually Sad Motion Machine” due out on Triple Eye Industries at the end of the Summer.”
