Mixed, Not Stirred is a weekly column in which artists curate special, themed playlists via Spotify or other mediums.
In this week’s Mixed, Not Stirred, New York doomsayers HUSH. curated a playlist of full records from artists that continue to inspire them. This 65-track-long playlist includes albums from heavy-hitters like Our Place of Worship is Silence, as well as more outre acts like Lingua Ignota. Here is what the band had to say regarding the release:
“HUSH. as a band is primarily focused on creating an emotionally and viscerally intense listening experience. Though we are a group of individuals with a pretty diverse set of musical tastes, we are able to come together to create music that exudes primarily darkness and desolation. In pursuit of that, the music we surround ourselves with during the writing process is influential in setting that mood. This playlist is a sampling of what helps define both the sonic and emotive underpinnings of our sound. Bands like Walk Through Fire, Buried At Sea, and Our Place of Worship is Silence provide inspiration in the form of ugly, relentless, suffocating heaviness. Records by Samothrace and 40 Watt Sun and Lingua Ignota bring us a sense of deep sadness and vulnerability. Cult of Luna, Sunrot, Sannhet, and Mouth of the Architect remind us that a dynamic sound that blends noise and heaviness with melody and softness allows for a fuller musical expression of every idea. Every one of these bands is incredible at what they do, and deserve a serious listen, probably several.”
