Kraanium is a brutal death/slam band from…well all over the world. Members of the band live in Norway, Turkey, Denmark, Finland and the UK. Usually when a band loses it’s front man and vocalist, they don’t continue on or try to with another and it isn’t as good. Kraanium was quiet after the suicide of Martin Funderud (well to me atleast) but they found Jack Christensen (Decay of Existence, Septic Congestion) and rolled out new slams with brutal and foul vocal work laid over it. Slamchosis is a return to form and shows the world that Kraanium is far from done, even after 16 years of brutality and 5 full length albums: prepare for T H I C C slams.
Slamchosis is more of what you would expect from the brutal death metal band: death, horror, gore, torture and other atrocities and crimes against humanity. They lay this filth on nasty riffs and aggressive drum work that has that Kraanium groove to it. While the name of the album and some of the songs may be cringy, they make up for it in sheer devastation in songwriting. With a mildly simplistic approach to their guitar compositions (the slam sections at least) they offer the listener plenty of chances to bang their head in a crushing manner. The more technical/faster sections are often paired nicely with gravity blasts from the drums or at the very least the traditional and fast blast beat.
Prepare your finest set of headphones or speakers because this album sounds amazing with a good setup. The bass found on this album is incredible and not only with the bass guitar and bass drum but the low end of the vocals as well, Slamchosis was mixed very carefully. Kraanium’s “Slamchosis” is one of the better slamming brutal death metal albums out this year. This album is just one giant swarm of evil coming out of the ground, a must listen to.
