Finnish Satan spewing blackened death metal cult ARCHGOAT are back with another blasphemous and delicious buffet of growls, riffs and grooves on their new album, The Luciferian Temple! The forth full length from Archgoat, you get exactly what you’d expect from the band if you’ve been a fan of them. If you don’t know what to expect, imagine a quartet of hellish beings ripping away at their instruments and stealing souls in the process. Yeah kinda like that.
Archgoat’s newest deliverance of evil is actually probably the best the band has done so far in their career and I know that is cliche to say that on a bands new release. This album has a healthy mix of fast paced songs and slower paced songs, even songs that have both scenarios within them. The guitars rip and tear with the riffs and the tone is straight up evil. Bass is super thick and powerful, earth moving in some cases. Vocals are ugly and evil, which I consider fantastic. Drums are blast-phemous and hectic but maintain a steady beat within the blast beats. He doesn’t go for epic speeds, just crushing rhythm and it works well for Archgoat.
The Luciferian Temple is maddeningly good, probably one of the better if not best underground black metal/death metal releases of the year. The production is done very well for the sound the band is unleashing, it’s not crisp but honestly I think the album would lose some of its charm if it was. Levels are even, no matter what I use to listen to this album (headphones, bluetooth speaker, BOSE surround) they all sound amazing. Archgoat’s newest album is incredibly enjoyable and dare I say….catchy. You’ll definitely headbang, play air guitar and beat the shit out of your steering wheel while listening to this on the way to work.
