I’ve been friends with vocalist and front man of the powerviolence act Terminal Nation for a few years now, and after seeing them perform live more times than any other band, I have finally conducted an interview with the man, the myth, the legend: Stan Liszewski! We discussed the bands upcoming musical endeavors, energy drinks and the recent benefit show the band played in their hometown (and mine!) of Little Rock, Arkansas. Enjoy.
How’s it going in your world, my dude?
All is well with me! Trying to stay busy and doing a good job of it!
Since it’s still pretty fresh, how was the Vino’s benefit to save the stage from your perspective? Because it was insane from mine.
The Vino’s benefit show was absolutely unbelievable. It completely surpassed my expectations. I am so happy I was able to be a part of it. For some time now, there’s been grievances by show attendees and staff about the shape the venue is in. Everyone knows it needs some TLC, there just hasn’t been any means or resources to fix it. I believe our music community is a microcosm of our actual community, and beyond that our world. If there is something going on that you don’t like or want to change, fix it. If your music community isn’t going the way it should, do something about it. If your world isn’t working for you, strive to make a change. So that’s what we did. I am so stoked to hear you had a great time. Aside from being able to fix up a venue that I consider my second home, the show was a blast. The energy was just off the charts the entire night. It was cool that 4 bands who have completely different sounds and fan bases came together for a greater good. No one was put off or felt that they were too good to watch another band, whether it was their cup of tea or not. I have an immense amount of respect for Colour Design, Go For Gold, and My Hands To War. I know that spot means as much to them as it does to me. I am so happy that 4 bands filled with passionate individuals came together to make magic happen for the music community we love.
You have a new split 7” coming out with the anti fascist black metal act Neckbeard Deathcamp. How did that come into effect?
Okay, so since their inception I have been following Neckbeard Deathcamp. I have a thing for lo fi bands that have production that sounds like complete dog shit. I’m sure this is no surprise, but I also love bands who are very vocal about where they stand when it comes to socio-political issues and uh ya know… bands that are not complete shitheels when it comes to where they stand. The band was ripped and was pissing off all the right people. In the same way Terminal Nation has done. Honestly, I think Terminal Nation liked one of their tweets and they hit us with “yo let’s do a split” and it just kind of spiraled from there. We just so happened to have recently started recording the first half of our LP and had a couple of recorded tracks in the chamber that we could spare. I hit up Will from To Live a Lie Records, it was the first label that came to mind, and he agreed almost immediately. I feel like the whole idea came to fruition and was put into effect within a few hours.
You also have the first Terminal Nation full length dropping in 2019, right? It’s going to be a crazy year.
The plan is to drop our first full length in 2019. I love our last two EPs, but when it comes to writing and song structuring, I feel like we have finally found our groove. Our new songs are coming together much more organically in a way that they haven’t before. Expect it to remain fast, you could even say faster, but much, much heavier than previous releases by us. We’re hoping to have the remainder of the songs tracked in the coming months. As of right now, we don’t have a label set in stone for the release, although we have some options. I really want this release to be done right. I think we are bringing a lot to the table with our new material and are hoping to find a label to match our output. We have put a lot of work into what we have, I think it completely smokes all of our old material so far. By a long margin. I’ve got my figers crossed that it drops this year.
What music has been keeping you sane recently?
Lately I have been jamming that Redbait demo. Also the Wristmeetrazor LP is honestly fucking perfect. I’ve still been jamming the Drug Church LP, which was my favorite of 2018. The record hits certain emotions in me that I haven’t felt through music in a long time. It’s sarcastic and fun. I got hooked on the Outer Heaven LP a little later than most people, but it rips. Just started getting hooked on Dawn Ray’d. This last year has offered up so many incredible releases, I feel like it’s really reinvigorated my love for heavy/aggressive music.
Are there any 2019 releases that you’re pumped for?
Friendship from Japan is dropping a new record on Southern Lord. I already know that’s going to whip ass. I understand that Redbait will have a new 7” out on New Age. I’m excited to see where that band goes! Two do the best bands playing fast hardcore right now, Regional Justice Center and Wound Man are doing a split. I cannot wait for that. Also, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that I am excited for a new Gatecreeper Record. That band can do no wrong.
Are there any big shows coming up for you guys in the near future?
As of right now I think I can mention that we will be playing Mutants of the Monster Fest in June here in Little Rock. It’s Arkansas’ premier metal fest, it’s going to be an awesome weekend. Bands playing include Thou, Tomb Mold, Full of Hell and more. We have a few other things in motion.
Last summer at Brigade Fest, your previous band Jungle Juice reunited. Can we expect this to happen again in the future?
No, there are no more plans for Jungle Juice shows. I think Jungle Juice has had their time. I loved that band and loved being in that band. I am stoked we played the last ever Brigade fest, but it’ll take another monumental event like that to make the Juice even consider dusting off for one more show. Unlikely, but never say never.
As a fellow Bang energy drink aficionado, what’s you’re favorite flavor. I’m all about the Peach Mango, but the new Bangster Berry is fire too.
To be honest, Sour Heads is my go to. I could have only that flavor from now on and I’d be happy with it.
Anything else you want to say to close this out?
Keep an eye out on Terminal Nation. We’re planning on making some cool shit happen in 2019. Thank you Ross, and thank you everyone for reading. CHINGA LA MIGRA!
