Extreme music is an odd and fickle thing, constantly changing and moving through various trends and phases, constantly picking one subgenre has it’s acceptable choice to get in to the group, before slowly fading them into the background of life when it becomes apparent. You then name drop the band, letting people know that you knew and liked a certain band and a certain type of music before it was cool, making you cool for a time, until ultimately that band falls behind the curve, leaving you to find another band and another subgenre to exploit for selfish gains. I mention this because we are all guilty of it, and at the same time, it is the way we expand as people, learning about new ideas and bands, and help to create cornerstones for what we create ourselves. A brief anecdote: in 2007 or 2008 I went to see Ottawa, Ontario band Buried Inside perform live. As one of the opening bands was setting up their frontman unassumingly took his place centre stage and they began playing shortly after. The sounds being projected from their singer was unlike anything I had ever heard up to that point. If there had been any paint left on the walls on the venue, the sound of this man’s voice surely would’ve peeled it from the surfaces. The band was Congress and their vocalist was Jamie Hooper. When not dabbling in noise rock Hooper spent some time fronting 3 inches of Blood.
Finland/Pennsylvania-based mathgrind duo Fawn Limbs (Mireplaner, ex-Psyopus, etc) are set to release their debut EP, Towing Heads, this Friday, August 31. Clocking in just shy of 10 minutes in length, Towing Heads is a hellacious burst of groove-heavy, grinding chaos that will pique the interest of fans of Ion Dissonance, Nightmarer, or caffeine-induced mania. In anticipation of its release, we at Svbterranean bring you an exclusive premiere of the record in its entirety. The band’s guitarist/bassist/vocalist Eeli Helin said the following of the release: Continue Reading
Fawn Limbs construct an unyielding, dissonant hellscape on their debut EP, Towing Heads.
Comprised of multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Eeli Helin (Mireplaner) and drummer Lee Fisher (ex-Psyopus), this Finland/Pennsylvania-based duo harks back to the “mathgrind” explosion of the early 2000s, but pushes that sound into some pretty dark territories. With a mere nine minutes at their disposal, Fawn Limbs unleash an abundance of discordant grind, rife with grim subject matter, that will rearrange listeners’ faces. Continue Reading
Syracuse, NY crossover grind band Fed Ash (featuring former members of Bleak, Trash Burner and Soured Ground) have unleashed their debut release, titled Grief As A Prison, today (August 8) and are offering up a stream of the entire effort. The album is comprised of eight tracks of abrasive grindcore, showcasing Fed Ash‘s penchant for harsh, destructive dissonance and suffocatingly dismal tones. It’s overwhelmingly aggressive, raw and visceral while exuding hardcore, powerviolence, black metal and sludge influences. Check it out after the break.
Finland/Pennsylvania-based mathcore duo Fawn Limbs are set to release their debut single, “A Radiant Mass”, tomorrow, August 3. Comprised of current and former members of Mireplaner, Psyopus and more, Fawn Limbs deliver a grinding, yet groove heavy form of mathcore that brings Solace-era Ion Dissonance and Intervals-era See You Next Tuesday to mind. “A Radiant Mass”, which we are excited to present to you today, illustrates this with its 80-second burst of off-kilter, crushing guitars and spastic riff freakouts. The band said the following of the track: Continue Reading
