Well, they’re back! Deafheaven have been taking the world by storm (either positively or negatively) since the release of their demo in 2010 and up through New Bermuda‘s release in 2015. While that album didn’t settle with me as an instant classic, the bands 2013 album Sunbather is a phenomenal work of art that stirred up more feelings than any record in recent memory. I mean, people really fucking hate that album and this band and, honestly I don’t get the negative feelings. But, what do I know? Long-running Tulsa based music collective ESCAPING THE ORDINARY are set to premiere the fourth instalment in their compilation series this Friday, June 15th. The collective was founded by Ty Griffin with a simple yet effective modus operandi that good music needs to be heard. Hailing from Boston and comprised of former members of Irepress, The Proselyte and Black Elm, Lesser Glow are yet another new band to push the boundaries of what is considered “post-metal”. Drawing influence from genre figure heads, while also incorporating elements from 90s underground and post-hardcore, Lesser Glow carve out an interesting niche for themselves within the sludge/doom/post-whatever scenes. “Burgeoning Verse” is a collaborative album between Ben Chisholm of Chelsea Wolfe‘s band and Felix Skinner of Wreck & Reference fame. Recorded over a 36 hour session using vintage guitars, bassoons, analog synths and pedals and a guest appearance by Andrew Clinco of Drab Majesty and Marriages to drum on the lead single.
Following the release of their new single “Honeycomb” yesterday, Deafheaven have revealed the details surrounding their forthcoming fourth full-length album. The highly-anticipated record, which follows 2015’s New Bermuda, will be titled Ordinary Corrupt Human Love and will be released on July 13 via Anti-. The record, whose title takes inspiration from Graham Greene’s novel The End of the Affair, was produced by Jack Shirley (Loma Prieta, Oathbreaker, etc) and will feature seven new tracks. The album’s artwork and track listing can be seen after the break.
The band have also announced they will embark on a North American summer tour alongside Drab Majesty and Uniform. Those dates can be found below.
