Let’s make this short and sweet. Several of my colleagues have already unleashed their end of the year lists and you should definitely check them out. It’s good to read up and check out others lists as their taste in music my be a little different than your own and it could lead you down a path where you discover something amazing. But for now, here is my 10 metal albums of 2018!
This edition of Quick Reviews is brought to you by big bands with one word for a name: Deicide, Aborted and Behemoth. All of these bands released an album recently and I let you know what I think about them within one or two paragraphs. Enjoy. Continue Reading
Aborted is one of the hardest working death metal bands right now. Endless touring, writing, recording and they just keep producing incredible shows, sounds and songs. The band just continues to improve and write masterful horror pieces and it takes the band from just a plain ol death metal act to a respectful group of musicians who just happen to write gore-riffic tunes. “Bathos” is a very small EP consisting of only 2 songs on it and these 2 songs are simply great. The title track hits hard with relentless guitars and drum punishment and the vocal storm comes a blowing in, leaving death and ash everywhere.
For whatever my opinion is worth (which probably isn’t much), I think this year has been quite an incredible one for heavy music. Some long-awaited returns, some exceptional grind, some progressive masterpieces, and some pretty substantial EPs, to say the least. Here are my top 20 picks for the best releases of 2016.
