Let’s make this short and sweet. Several of my colleagues have already unleashed their end of the year lists and you should definitely check them out. It’s good to read up and check out others lists as their taste in music my be a little different than your own and it could lead you down a path where you discover something amazing. But for now, here is my 10 metal albums of 2018!
For my list this year I decided to follow Lane’s footsteps and just list out what I think are the best releases of this past year – explanations be damned! So for the sake of brevity, here are my favourite top 20 releases of 2018. Thanks for reading! (I promise I do have my reasons for my own opinions.)
2018 was messy and ugly, and proved to be fertile ground for all kinds of messy and ugly musical ideas to grow in. There were a lot of great records released this year, and here are the ones I really vibed with and kept listening to with time. Also threw in some that let me down because this is the internet so you have to complain about at least a couple things.

Well, here it is again.
How do I sum up a year in music that some how seemed to top every other year previous? Why do I say that every year? Who cares what I think anyway? I limited myself to a top thirty, but boy, there’s a ton of honorable mentions. Black metal was king this year, as it is most years for me. I’m boring, whatever, eat my shit.
