With their unyielding abrasiveness and harrowing vocal performances, New York’s Couch Slut manages to effortlessly produce more “extreme” music than most of their metal contemporaries.
Couch Slut made their presence known in 2014 when they released their caustic debut, My Life as a Woman. With its X-rated cover artwork, sludgy and seedy noise rock sound, and boldly and bluntly violent, sexual and traumatic imagery, My Life as a Woman definitely caught some attention. While it is easy to slap some violent or sexual artwork on a release in attempt to come across as “transgressive” or “edgy”, this was not the case with this release. The feelings of degradation and venomous spite all felt genuine, potent and far from exaggerated, making My Life as a Woman quite the force to be reckoned with.
