HAAN is a blistering 4 piece noise rock band from NYC, operating in the spirit of all that description implies. In the grand, grimy tradition of their forebears like Helmet and Unsane, HAAN will hit you in the gut and leave you lying breathless in the street. Their particular fusion of post punk/hardcore and hard rock is muscular and undulating, not leaving anything to the imagination as they strip all of the filth and stress and rage off of daily life and hold it up in front of your face. With their driving rhythms, riff-happy guitars and catchy, yet emotionally-jarring vocal refrains, Slumberbox help bring the spirit of 90s post-hardcore to 2017. This Seattle outfit, whose ranks are filled with former members of Grenades and Where My Bones Rest Easy, aims to release their debut self-titled EP tomorrow, June 7. Featuring four cathartic tunes, the EP is a must have for fans of Quicksand, Samiam and the like.
We at Svbterranean are stoked to bring you an exclusive stream of this fierce little EP, which can found after the break. We were also able to catch up with guitarist/vocalist Ronnie Navarro and guitarist Eric Christianson to chat about the new release. Check it all out below.

Last week, NYC’s Primitive Weapons released their second full-length offering The Future of Death (via Party Smasher Inc). The album is an intense, vitriolic blend of post-hardcore and metal with a muscular 90’s style alt-rock grit. The band features an assortment of luminaries from the NYC scene both past and present – drummer Chris Enriquez played with emo vanguard On The Might of Princes, guitarist Arty Shepard has done time with a laundry list of bands including the 90’s innovators Mind Over Matter and defining post-hardcore groups like Errortype:11 and Instruction, and vocalist David Castillo currently shreds his voice in White Widows Pact as well. In addition to this, Castillo and Shepard along with their partners, run the increasingly legendary NYC fixture Saint Vitus Bar, which has just celebrated it’s 5th anniversary with a slate of special performances which included the release show for The Future of Death. Recently David and Arty we kind enough to answer some questions we had about Primitive Weapons and what went into making The Future of Death, which can be streamed in full below. Continue Reading
