Finnish grindcore band Rotten Sound have been consistently offering up intense slabs of visceral, doom-tinged grind for over two decades and their latest album, Abuse to Suffer, gloriously continues the tradition. The new album, which was recently released on March 25, is their second release for Season of Mist, following their 2013 EP, Species at War, and marks the act’s first new full-length in five years, since 2011’s Cursed. But it’s been well-worth the wait, as Abuse to Suffer is a stunning force of modern grind, featuring 16 harsh tracks that combine Rotten Sound’s iconic blistering speed and aggression with dark, pulverizing heaviness. In this recent interview with Svbterranean, vocalist Keijo Niinimaa took some time out while on tour in Europe with Abigail Williams and Cult Leader to discuss Abuse to Suffer. He talks about their writing process, working with Season of Mist and the album’s thought-provoking themes, as well as what keeps the band motivated after 20 years and more. Continue Reading

Finland’s grind aficionados Rotten Sound have premiered a new track from their upcoming album, Abuse to Suffer, at Terrorizer. Titled “Lazy Asses”, the track features all of the best propulsive, volcanic grind the band is known for. The band recently commented on the new track:
“Our first track starts with an intro by our friend Heikki Järvi, who also did the samples for ‘Exit’ in 2004. We did not ask for anything specific, but somehow the disturbing sounds he created are setting the exactly right mood for this song, which is one of the most aggressive tracks on our new album. Even by our standards, ‘Lazy Asses’ kicks in pretty explosively: fast guitars, blasting drums and an opening grunt, which was strongly influenced by the beginning of the ‘Brain Corrosion’ album by Dead Infection. It is Sami’s song, who openly admits that the idea for this grunting stems from our Polish friends, and I recall that he used their scream on the original demo. Everything about ‘Lazy Asses’ revolves around grind and that is the reason why we placed it at the start although there are other ingredients on this album. The title is pointing a finger at the ultimate waste of money and time: free-riders in the politics. I am sure everyone can easily name a few of them.”
