Walking Bombs – the solo/collaborative project of New York musician Morgan Ywain Evans – is poised to release its sophomore album, Brave Hours, on April 14.
Following the outfit’s 2016 Peace Quest EP, Brave Hours was put together in 2016 with major involvement from engineer and multi-instrumentalist Jay Anderson (Surmiser), and was mastered by grunge legend Tad Doyle. The record, which features a wealth of collaborators including Spirit Adrift‘s Nate Garrett and VOWWS, delivers an eclectic blend of grunge, alternative, industrial, post-punk and more.
Today, we at Svbterranean bring you the first taste of the upcoming effort in the form of its opening track, “Dry Heaves”. The track is full of electronic, post-punk splendor, ethereal atmospheres and extremely catchy pop sensibilities. The track also features guest saxophone from Shining frontman Jørgen Munkeby. Doom metal outfit Spirit Adrift have premiered a new track )with accompanying video) from its upcoming full-length, Chained to Oblivion, at Terrorizer. The new track is titled “Form and Force” and expertly combines classic doom stylings with expressive melody and ethereal atmosphere. Mastermind Nate Garrette commented on the tune:
“‘Form and Force’ is about, quite simply, things not being what they seem. All the songs on ‘Chained To Oblivion’ deal with some heavy, personal subject matter. I tried to make the lyrics as open to interpretation as possible, so that anyone who hears or reads them can experience some of their own catharsis. HP Lovecraft definitely helped with that on this song. On the music side of things, there are a couple of interesting tidbits. The guitar solos on ‘Chained To Oblivion’ are almost all doubled or harmonized. I felt like this one was so special that I let it stand alone, other than one brief segment toward the end. It’s hard to pick a favorite guitar solo on the album, but this might be it. Another interesting thing is the ending. It’s by far the most abrupt, concise ending of any Spirit Adrift song. Whether or not that was intentional, who knows. I hope this small taste of what’s in store on ‘Chained To Oblivion’ connects with people, and gets them excited to experience the big picture.”
