Bringing together musicians who have spent time with the likes of The Faceless, Fallujah and All Shall Perish, The Zenith Passage serves as a vessel for these virtuosic musicians to spread cosmic technical death metal to ears worldwide. The California act’s sound casually nods to those that inspired it like The Faceless and Spawn of Possession, while maintaining its own identity. Though the band’s sound has a similar approach to that of Planetary Duality-era The Faceless, and some people may be quick to label the band as “copycats”, further exploration will show that The Zenith Passage merely use that influence as a jumping-off point and that their sound is more visceral, hard-hitting and eclectic. Solipsist, the band’s full-length debut, is one of the few newer technical death metal records that successfully revitalizes a slowly stagnating genre.

The Zenith Passage – the Los Angeles tech death quartet that is comprised of former and current members of All Shall Perish, The Faceless and Fallujah – have premiered a new lyric video for their track “Holographic Principle II: Convergence” at Metal Injection. The track, which will appear on the group’s Solipsist, is fierce, complex composition full of mind-boggling instrumentation and interstellar cinematics. Guitarist Justin McKinney commented on the lyrical nature of the track:
“Recent studies suggest that our universe may only appear to be three dimensional and is, in fact, a two dimensional projection of a parallel universe – like a hologram in the unseen ‘real’ universe. ‘Holographic Principle II: Convergence’ mirrors the chaotic state of a destabilized mind awakening to realities much stranger than we could have imagined. The composition has a multifaceted, sporadic essence. While remaining true to our death metal roots, we pushed this piece’s edges into other territory, entwining the aggressive technical foundation with spatters of jazz fusion and classical symphony. We hope you’ll lose yourself as you take your first look into Solipsist.”

Solipsist will be released on April 15 via Unique Leader Records.
